School Entry Plan

Posted on

Staggered Entry – Grade 6 students will begin a day before the rest of the school on Tuesday, September 3. This will provide Grade 6 students with an opportunity to become familiar with the school.

Our primary entrance and exit doors for the Grade 6 students are the Northeast doors which face the bus loop and are in close proximity to the Grade 6 classrooms. As always, students have access to any entry or exit as required, however all doors are locked after 8:45 am except for the main entrance.

On the morning of Tuesday, Sept 3, Grade 6 students will be greeted by staff outside of their primary door and led to the gym by staff to begin their welcome to WGM. They will then have the opportunity to move from class to class to meet their teachers and learn about the classes and the day-to-day systems and expectations at WGM. Please note this is for students only.

Class Location – The overwhelming majority of all Grade 6 core classes will occur in the aforementioned classrooms. This further supports the transition to WGM.

Locks and Lockers – This will be arranged as part of the first welcome day. Locks will be provided by the school and their teachers will go over it with them on the first day. The first lock per student is free and all subsequent locks (Ex. damaged/lost) for that student will be at a cost.

Lunch – Parents/Guardians who would like to provide their child with off-campus privileges during lunchtime may sign a form in the annual demographics package sent at the start of the school year through SchoolEngage. If this form is not signed, it is expected that students in Grades 6 stay on school grounds during the lunch hour.

Computers – The school has enough computers to support Grade 6 students. If you would like to send your child with an internet capable PC, Chromebook or Mac with at least a screen and keyboard, this is supported.  We recommend a durable computer with a small form factor (smaller screen size) as they are less expensive, resilient, and fully capable of doing everything that the students will need for their academics.  Smartphones, iPods, and mp3 players are not acceptable as a device. It is imperative that students bring their device to school fully charged and ready to use each day. Please note that there is paperwork that will need to be completed to use loaner computer. Forms will be available for students to pick up at the office.

Cell Phones – Information for W.G. Murdoch School's policy which aligns with upcoming Provincial and RVS requirements is planned to be shared when more information is available from RVS.

Optional Courses – Students received preference sheets in June. If you do not have a copy of the sheet, please click this link. Please return these via email or in-person to the school during the week of August 26 so that we can best align the preferences of students with the options being offered.

School Supplies – Please find the list of school supplies on our website at https://wgmurdoch.rockyview.ab.ca/learning/school-supplies

Gym Strip
Indoor Shoes and Gym Strip are required for Physical Education Classes. Students may bring their own gym strip or purchase one from the school through SchoolCash at a reasonable cost.  We also offer other wearables that can be ordered at an additional cost through our Spirit Wear store on the homepage. The hoodies and sweats are not part of the gym strip, but they are acceptable substitutes during inclement weather.

Land Acknowledgment

Rocky View Schools would like to acknowledge the land and recognize all the Indigenous Peoples whose footprints have marked these lands from time immemorial. Together, we can learn and honour the Ways of Knowing of Indigenous Peoples for all future generations.
